There's a quiet little corner of Colorado where the desert and mountains collide, the center of which is Durango. With a rich history, stunning scenery, and a 4 year college, Durango has a little bit of everything including a fantastic music scene. Eric Kiefer is a wandering element of that scene, serving sometimes as a drummer, others as a bass player, and often as a singer/songwriter backed by an acoustic guitar and a phrase sampler. Eric has been involved with music since his childhood in South Jersey. In 1995, he moved to Durango, Colorado where he's worked in the nursery business, as a ski instructor, a programmer and musician. His band, Aftergrass (of which he's the drummer), recently played the Telluride Blues and Brews festival with such acts as Taj Mahal, Bonnie Raitt and Buddy Guy. In 2008 he got his hands on a phrase sampler (some people call them loop machines) which allows him to record elements during a song, play them back, and even overdub new tracks on top. This results in a unique sonic tapestry that is both percussive and tonal. The music derives its energy from the natural places of the Southwest and is influenced by bluegrass, jam bands, and reggae.
